Some courses in scientific computing are devoted to just ONE kind of computing tool.
However, there are MANY computer tools which allow you to solve scientific problems in straightforward ways.
In this course you will be encouraged to choose the tool you need.
Be careful, however. You will get more from the course if you take the time to MASTER a few tools, rather than use a great number of them with superficial understanding.
Members of our class have a wide range of background knowledge in scientific computing.
Our goal is not the impossible task of reaching the same high level of skill. Rather, each member of the class should aim to make advances in their understanding which are a challenge at the appropriate level.
For some members of the class, some of the the following terms will be strange. A special tutorial will be offered on any of these topics if you feel you would benefit from it. The tutorial could be given as an introduction after you have tried just a few things, or at a more advanced level if you would like to delve into the topic with greater depth.
You will find you learn fastest if you have tried something first, before asking a tutor (there are help files for many things!)
Write the ``Hello World'' program in several different ways. (Advanced students might consider a mixed language version!)
Draw an ABC logo.
