So far we have looked at point-to-point communications:
light enters one end of the fibre and reappears at the other end!
From our introduction on networks, we know that this is not a very efficient way to communicate: we want to
  • be able to interconnect several people and devices
  • distribute the information to several points 
    •
    This chapter will demonstrate the versatility of optical fibres and how they be used to create networks.
