The Electromagmetic Spectrum

The different types of radiation that form the electromagnetic spectrum are characterised by their wavelength or frequency.

The human eye is only sensitive to the wavelengths that lie in the "visible" part of the electromagnetic energy spectrum (400 to 700 nm): this is known as visible light.

Humans cannot see infrared or ultraviolet radiations as they lie beyond the limits of the visible spectrum. But some insects can! red bug gif animation
