Glassblowing

Around 50 B.C., a technological innovation revolutionised the glass making profession: it was discovered that molten glass could be blown into various shapes. This technique, still used today to make hollow containers, is called glassblowing.

The mass of molten glass at the end of a hollow blowing pipe is made hollow by blowing into the pipe. The glass is then shaped with simple tools while it is still malleable.

The Romans introduced glass into Britain during the reign of Julius Caesar. Glass making then spread throughout Europe and the Islamic Countries.
From then on, glass objects became more and more available.
