Representing a Number in Base 10


Let's first take a look at the familiar decimal system or base 10!

The decimal system owes its popularity to the fact that we have ten fingers!

For instance, 1789 can be represented by:

1 x 1000 + 7 x 100 + 8 x 10 + 9 x 1
In fact, any number between 0 and 99999, can be represented by the formula:

edcba =  e x 104 + d x 103 + c x 102 + b x 101 + a x 100
where a, b, c, d, e have a value between 0 and 9.

For numbers bigger than 99999, you just need to add f x 105 to the above equation and so on.
