Finally, the third group of key elements are the devices on the networks themselves.
Devices are required to:

  • switch and route messages between various links.

  • ensure that the information is transmitted with reliability to its destination: these devices will amplify , correct and repeat the signals (whatever their nature) in the network. 
    •
    Of course, many of these functions can be integrated and performed by a single device.
