In a circuit switched data network, 
a physical connection is 
established by the switchboard 
through the communication network between 
two nodes 
(for instance two telephones). 


This connection is used exclusively 
between these two subscribers 
until the connection is dropped.





In this configuration, the 
number of lines to a subscriber 
is equal to the 
number of subscribers.
