Morse's telegraph was widely adopted: by the middle of the 19th century, telegraph networks were built throughout North America, Europe and Australia.

The first Australian telegraph line
linked Melbourne and
Sandridge
in 1854. By
1872,
Australia could communicate
directly with
Britain by telegraph.
The telegraph reduced distances between countries and people. The only thing that slowed down the communications was the coding and decoding of messages.
But a new revolution was yet to come, a revolution that would abolish time and space: the invention of Alexander Graham Bell.
